| Yin Yoga: |
| |
Yin Yoga is a term used to describe a different type of Yoga practice. Its name reflects the contrast between the typical Yoga, which can be described as very energetic and muscular (yang), and this peaceful and quiet practice. Yin Yoga uses some familiar postures (asanas), but they are held for 3—5 minutes each. These asanas put the muscles at rest, minimizing the stress of holding a pose, allowing the deeper connective tissues to relax and open up. These sessions will alternate between emphasizing the spine and the hips as these are two major problem areas for most people.
Yin Yoga is a practice of balance, and should be accompanied by a yang, or typical yoga practice as well. A regular cardiovascular or similar exercise program such as walking, bicycling, swimming and so on will provide the necessary balance of vigorous activity to go along with your new yin practice.
Come and explore the amazing benefits of creating what Paul Grilley, the foremost teacher of Yin Yoga calls “temporary and momentary vulnerability.” |
